Developing The UKTI International Website Review Service

Programme: Export Communications Review (ECR)

Goal: To help SMEs to trade more successfully with international markets, through a comprehensive international communications audit.
Activities: To create a new version of the ECR to enable companies to use their websites as a pioneering digital route to market, having identified trends and opportunities for e-commerce to reach international customers.
Activities included:
- Developing the UKTI best practice methodology and audit checklist for the new International Website Review 
- Research and development work in the areas of international website optimisation, international e-commerce and international social media 
- Writing of technical guides on all elements of exporting online, such as international domains, structuring an international website and targeting an international website 
- Training of the nationwide team of accredited Export Communications Consultants in the International Website Review. 
Results: The Website ECR was delivered to thousands of SMEs across England, giving them a competitive edge and visibility online across the world. This work was featured in UK government’s world-leading 'Exporting Online' programme, the launch of which was spearheaded by Vince Cable, the then Business Secretary.
