bbc.co.uk – The number of shops on the high street declined dramatically in the first nine months of this year, a survey suggests. Town centres saw 964 net closures between January and September, two-and-a-half times the net reduction for the whole of 2013, according to the study by PwC and the Local Data Company. The collapse of businesses such as Phones 4U and lingerie chain La Senza accelerated the decline, PwC said. Clothing shops were among the hardest hit while betting shops thrived. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – There are rising concerns in Europe over negotiations to liberalise trade with the United States. The project, the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, or TTIP, aims to remove a wide range of barriers to bilateral commerce. Demonstrations were taking place across Europe on Saturday, with large numbers of events in Germany, France, Spain and Italy. In Britain, events were planned in at least 15 cities and towns. bbc.co.uk – Credit rating agency Standard and Poor’s has cut France’s credit outlook to negative, due to concerns about the country’s struggling economic recovery. However, it affirmed France’s AA/A-1+ rating, the third-highest rating. ‘We believe that a recovery of the French economy could prove elusive’ said S&P in a statement. France’s finance minister, Michel Sapin, said the country’s debt was ‘one of the surest in the world’. Read more>>
Open to Export – Selling online internationally, is, let’s face it, an opportunity just too good to miss. While the US is predicted to hit about 1% growth this year, global e-commerce is growing at 19% a year and is predicted to top $1 trillion worth of transactions this year. In the UK the picture is looking rosy too, with online sales generated by UK retailers from international markets expected to soar seven-fold to $28 billion by 2020. With even a small percentage of overseas orders, the potential to propel your sales revenue from international markets to another level is well worth the investment in putting the building blocks of a good international e-commerce strategy in place.
