bbc.co.uk – London-based firm OwnFone has released what it says is the world’s first Braille phone. The front and back of the phone is constructed using 3D printing techniques and can be customised. Other companies have designed Braille phones in the past, but OwnFone says its device is the first of its kind to go on sale. For those who can’t read Braille, the company can print raised text on the keypad. Read more>>
bbc.co.uk – A venture capital firm has appointed a computer algorithm to its board of directors. The program – called Vital – will vote on whether to invest in a specific company or not. The firm it will be working for – Deep Knowledge Ventures – focuses on drugs for age-related diseases. It said that Vital would make its recommendations by sifting through large amounts of data. bbc.co.uk – Google has added coast-to-coast public transport information for the whole of Great Britain to its Maps app. It said the data included departure times and routes for buses, ferries, trains and trams in England, Scotland and Wales. It is not the first app to do so. Rome2Rio’s UK Transport Search app already provided similar coverage. But the body supplying the data said that the huge popularity of Google’s service meant its move was significant. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – Eurozone economic growth lost momentum in the first three months of 2014, official figures show, with the growth rate unchanged from the previous quarter at 0.2%. That was weaker than many economists had expected. German growth picked up pace, with the economy expanding by 0.8%. But France and Italy disappointed. The French economy failed to grow, while Italy’s contracted by 0.1%, having only just emerged from recession last year. Read more>>
