bbc.co.uk – Social networking giant Twitter has introduced a new feature that will allow advertisers to target users on its platform based on their language. It is being seen as the latest step by Twitter to attract more advertisers. Advertising is the biggest source of revenue for Twitter – accounting for 90% of sales in the first quarter of this year. bbc.co.uk – Free wi-fi has arrived in hundreds more bank branches as HSBC moves to encourage customers to manage their accounts on smartphones. Some 650 hotspots will help customers download and use the bank’s app, and start making payments by phone. Read more>>
bbc.co.uk – Chinese internet giant Alibaba has filed documents for a public share sale in the US, which is widely expected to be one of the biggest in history. In its filing, the company said it was seeking to raise $1bn (£589m). But that figure is seen just as an estimate to calculate various fees. bbc.co.uk – China has released weaker-than-expected manufacturing data, reinforcing concerns the world’s second-largest economy is losing steam. Industrial output rose by 8.7% in April from a year earlier, compared with estimates for an 8.9% increase. Retail sales and fixed-asset investment spending also came in below forecasts. Read more>>
