bbc.co.uk – China’s internet giant Tencent will launch the popular Candy Crush game on the mainland in a partnership with the game’s creator. The tie-up will give the UK-based King Digital Entertainment exposure to China. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – A new fibre optic network is to be created in York to provide ultra-fast broadband speeds throughout the city. The one gigabit (1,000 Mbps) network will be delivered directly to homes and businesses, with the first customers expected to be connected in 2015. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – China’s economy expanded by 7.4% in the first quarter of the year, better than what many were expecting. But it is a slowdown from 7.7% growth in the final quarter of last year. Other data released with the gross domestic product (GDP) figure showed industrial output rising 8.8% in March from one year ago. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – Shares in China’s Weibo, a Twitter-like service, rose by almost 20% on their first day of trading on the US stock market, after a lukewarm start. The company’s flotation on the Nasdaq stock exchange had initially raised a less-than-expected $286m (£170m). Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – Shares in Google have dropped 5% despite the technology giant reporting a first-quarter profit rise of 3%. Profits were $3.45bn (£2.05bn), but investors are preoccupied by Google’s inability to maintain advertising prices. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – Shares in struggling internet search giant Yahoo jumped 9% despite a 20% fall in first-quarter earnings. The company’s profits of $312m (£187m) still beat expectations. Yahoo also said revenue from display advertising increased by 2% to $409m, the first rise in some time. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – UK department store chain House of Fraser has sold a majority stake in its business to Chinese conglomerate Sanpower in a £480m deal. The acquisition – China’s largest foreign retail investment – gives Sanpower an 89% share in the company. Read more>>
