bbc.co.uk – Researchers say they have found a way to detect and recognise human gestures based on how they affect wi-fi signals. They suggest it could let users control home appliances with a wave of the hand while in any room of the house. They say the WiSee system offers a “simpler, cheaper” alternative to Microsoft’s camera-based Kinect and other specialist gesture sensors. Read more>>
bbc.co.uk – The head of the messaging application Viber has said people in Saudi Arabia have had basic freedoms taken away, after his service was blocked there. Talmon Marco told the BBC he did not know the reason for the move, but that Viber would be restored soon. In March Saudi authorities warned Viber and other encrypted messaging services that they would be blocked unless they provided a means to be monitored. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – The European Central Bank (ECB) has revised down its eurozone growth forecast as it voted to hold rates at historic lows. The ECB now expects the euro area to contract by 0.6% this year, having earlier predicted a GDP fall of 0.5%. ECB President Mario Draghi said the Bank still saw “downside risks” for the eurozone economy, but insisted a gradual recovery would begin in 2014. Read more>>
bbc.co.uk – Unemployment in the eurozone has reached another record high, according to official figures. The seasonally-adjusted rate for April was 12.2%, up from 12.1% the month before. An extra 95,000 people were out of work in the 17 countries that use the euro, taking the total to 19.38 million. Both Greece and Spain have jobless rates above 25%. The lowest unemployment rate is in Austria at 4.9%. Read more>>
