bbc.co.uk – Freed from ‘the shackles of the catalogue’, Littlewoods has benefitted from the move to shopping online and in particular on mobile phones. The company’s owner, Shop Direct, which also owns fashion website Very.co.uk, has reported record profits. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – The UK’s services industry rebounded strongly in August, suggesting the country will ‘avoid recession’, according to a closely-watched survey. The Markit/CIPS purchasing managers’ index (PMI) showed activity in UK services recorded the biggest month-on-month rise in the survey’s history. Read more>>
