bbc.co.uk – Three years have passed since Yahoo bought Tumblr, but the micro-blogging website has not proved to be the goldmine once hoped. Yahoo paid $1.1bn (£830m) for the company back in 2013 – but it has since slashed $712m (£541m) off its valuation. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – The WhatsApp messaging service in Brazil is operating again after it was temporarily suspended for failing to hand over information requested in a criminal investigation. The third suspension in two years lasted for a few hours, affecting some 100 million users. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – Britain’s decision to leave the EU has led to a ‘dramatic deterioration’ in economic activity, not seen since the aftermath of the financial crisis. Data from IHS Markit’s Purchasing Managers’ Index, or PMI, shows a fall to 47.7 in July, the lowest level since April in 2009. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – Digital rights group the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is attempting to overturn parts of US copyright law which, it says, are unconstitutional. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) makes it illegal to bypass software that prevents the copying of protected work in many situations. Read more>>
