bbc.co.uk – Samsung has launched its mobile wallet service Samsung Pay in South Korea. It joins Apple – which launched a rival facility last year – in trying to convince shoppers to use their handsets, rather than plastic cards, to make in-store purchases. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – Smartphone sales in China have fallen year-on-year for the first time, according to data gathered by Gartner. The market research firm says 4% fewer handsets were sold in the months of April, May and June compared with the same period in 2014. Read more>>

INTERNATIONAL TRADE NEWS 

bbc.co.uk – Stock markets in the Middle East have fallen sharply after a difficult week for all major global share indexes. The Dubai Financial Market closed down 7%, while the Saudi exchange also lost 7% after Fitch ratings agency cut its outlook for the country. Last week, the Dow Jones in the US fell 6%, while the UK’s FTSE 100 posted its biggest weekly loss this year of 5%. Read more>>

bbc.co.uk – The CBI has cut its UK growth forecasts and warned of further risks to the economy posed by a possible ‘messy’ end to the Greek crisis and uncertainty over the EU referendum. The business lobby group now expects 2.4% growth this year and 2.5% next year, down from February’s forecast of 2.7% and 2.6% respectively.
