The Make it Global programme provides £1.5 million in funding to support the internationalisation of SMEs (small and medium enterprises) run by women in London. The funding comes from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Union. The programme is run by the University of East London with additional support from Kingston University, Newham College of Further Education and the European Business and Innovation Network.
The aim of the programme is to enable women-owned businesses in London to grow sustainably in the global business market and to realise the potential of female-led SMEs. Only 16% of female-led SMEs export, as opposed to the 33% of SMEs who export overall in Europe.
The programme’s main features areits free workshops and ongoing one-on-one support on a wide range of topics such as SEO branding and breaking into new global markets. We have run Grow Global workshops for the Make It Global programme on various elements of international communication, including international websites, international social media and international e-commerce. Attendees can also learn from other businesses in the industry and find support within the Make it Global network.
A Make it Global grant is available which can support the placement of a student, who will be backed by an academic, to work on a project with an international focus with you – great if you are looking to incorporate an international angle into your website, e-commerce system or social media. The business will benefit from the extra assistance and input and the student will gain valuable experience.
